Residents of Fufore Local Government Area in Adamawa State are mourning the death of their chairman, Yahya Saidu, less than two years after his predecessor died in office. Saidu’s death on Friday marks the second time the council has lost a serving chairman within approximately 18 months.
His death was confirmed on Saturday by Aliyu Wakili, the House of Representatives member representing Fufore/Song Federal Constituency, in a condolence statement. Wakili described the loss as painful for the people of Fufore and Adamawa State, while offering prayers for Saidu and his family.
The development recalls the death of Saidu’s predecessor, Shuaibu Babas, who died in office on April 23, 2025. The two deaths, occurring within a relatively short period, have drawn attention to the loss of successive occupants of the local government’s top elected position.
Political commentator Abu-Taqiyah Zumo described the deaths as a sobering coincidence, noting that both men held the same office before their passing. His comments reflected on the uncertainty of life and the fact that public positions continue even after their occupants are gone.
Tributes have continued to come from political associates, community leaders and constituents across Adamawa State. Messages of condolence have focused on the loss to the local government and the need to support the bereaved family during the period of mourning.
Wakili prayed for Allah to forgive Saidu’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus. He also asked for strength and patience for the late chairman’s family, friends, associates and the people of Fufore as they come to terms with his death.
As mourning continues, attention will turn to the arrangements for leadership following the death of the serving chairman. No details about a successor or transition arrangements were provided in the statement announcing his death, leaving the local government’s next steps unconfirmed.
