By Steve Ovirih.

The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, Dr.Ademola Iyanda Ebeloku has congratulated Nigerians on the celebration of Democracy Day.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu having recognized the importance of the June 12, 1993 General election and the sacrifices of key actors of the June 12 narrative pronounced June 12 as Democracy Day as against May 29th, the official day of handing over to civilian government in 1999.

In an official statement personally endorsed by Dr.Ebeloku, a copy of which was obtained by thepolity.net, he noted that June 12 represents a defining moment in the history of the political development of Nigeria, adding that it has become a day identified with courage, sacrifice and the Nigerian people’s unwavering desire to choose their own leaders. The Polytechnic Rector however said the struggle of June 12 is a reminder that democracy is not free. “Our democracy was earned through the resolve of citizens who believed that their votes must count,” Ebeloku added.

The seasoned Administrator affirmed that at The Federal Polytechnic Ile-Oluji, students are not just trained to be Technicians , Accountants and Engineers, stressing that the school is training future leaders, employers and problem solvers across discipline who will sustain the good values of democracy. “Democracy thrives when citizens are informed, responsible and engaged and these are the ideas we are impacting in our students,” the Polytechnic Don asserted.

While noting that Federal Polytechnic Ile-Oluji will continue to partner with government and communities to drive development through research, innovation and skilled manpower, which he said are part of the Polytechnic’s contribution to deepening democracy from the grassroots, Dr. Ebeloku maintained that the management remains committed to providing an enabling environment for democracy to thrive. “We will continue to produce graduates who are not only job- ready but also nation builders,” the Rector stressed.

Dr. Ebeloku also saluted the staffs of the institution whom he described as the mentors shaping the minds of the leaders of tomorrow. ” Thank you for instilling discipline, excellence and patriotism in our students daily,” he added.

Ebeloku charged Nigerians to recommit themselves to the ideals of justice, unity and progress, stressing that democracy is a journey not a destination and it demands patience, patriotism and participation from all.
