NIMC staff down tools, allege Covid 19 threat.

– Steve Ovirih.

The staff of National Identity Management Corporation ( NIMC) have downed tools.

While calling out their members on industrial action, they said three members of the outfit have contracted Covid 19 and top management have failed to make public this information so that others can continue to register members of the public for the National Identity Number (NIN) drive without a recourse to the fast spreading second strain of Coronavirus pandemic.

It will be recalled that the National Communication Commission (NCC) had threatened to disconnect any mobile telecommunication line that is not registered with the NIN number and this threat had led to a rush by the public to all available NIN registration outlets across Nigeria. Unfortunately, this does not bode well for the country as the second wave of Coronavirus seems to be on the loose in the country.

As at the time of filing in this report, the registration exercise has been suspended , while the NIMC management is engaging the Presidency in a parley on the development.
