Olabode Omoyele backs State Police creation
An All Progressives Congress, APC Chieftain from Ondo State, Mr. Olabode Omoyele has thrown his weight behind the Senate’s bid to effect the bill on the creation of State Police.
He gave this indication about his support for State Police in an exclusive chat with newsmen on Thursday.
Omoyele in his frank reaction to the National Assembly’s proposition on State Police said it is a template known to all constitutional democracies across the developed world, adding that sub regional structures cannot be adequately policed by Federal policing structure.
While he saluted the Nigeria Police Force for the good job they have done so far, Olabode Omoyele is of the opinion that aside the fact that The Nigeria Police Force is overwhelmed, they are too distant from the grassroots which is the flashpoint of crimes across the nation.
While saluting the legislative forthrightness of The National Assembly in being proactive about the need to curb the hydra headed security challenge bedeveling the nation, Olabode said there is the need to fastrack the legislative work on the state police bill, expressing confidence in the commitment of the President Tinubu led Federal Government to pass the bill into law.
He also noted that he has no doubt that the twin houses of Assembly, Senate and House of Reps will concur on promptly on this agenda.
” We hope that when this bill goes to the state assemblies across the 36 States, it will be given the accelerated attention it needs” Olabode appealed.
The way criminal bandits have terrorized Nigeria in the recent time requires that all hands need to be on deck to slacken the grip of these violent aggressors, Olabode added.
