Olabode Omoyele hails Aiyedatiwa over Oba Adesida flyover launch

A Chieftain of All Progressives Congress,APC in Ondo State, Mr.Olabode Omoyele has commended Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for the official launch of the new overhead bridge construction on Oba Adesida Road, describing it as a bold step that will reshape the Ondo State capital.

The 2.38-kilometre flyover, approved by the Ondo State Executive Council, is to span from Adegbola Junction to the St. Matthias/NNPC Filling Station axis in Alagbaka. Traffic studies had identified the Alagbaka–FUTA corridor as one of the most congested routes in Akure, with the flyover recommended as the most effective long-term solution.

Speaking with news men after the flag-off ceremony on Monday, from his Office headquarters in Lagos, Olabode said the project underscores the governor’s commitment to infrastructure-driven development and urban renewal.

“The approval and commencement of this overhead bridge is a welcome development for Akure people,” Olabode said. “For years, motorists and commuters have suffered avoidable gridlock along Oba Adesida Road. This intervention will not only ease traffic but also boost commerce and give Akure the modern outlook it deserves.”

He noted that posterity would remember the Aiyedatiwa administration for prioritizing capital projects that directly impact residents’ daily lives, adding that the bridge would complement other road works already delivered across the metropolis.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, while launching the project, reiterated that infrastructure remains at the heart of his administration’s “Budget of Recovery”. He said the flyover, alongside other ongoing road projects, is designed to unlock economic potential and improve connectivity in all 18 local government areas.

The Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, disclosed that contractors have been directed to commence preliminary surveys immediately to ensure a seamless kickoff.

Residents have also hailed the move. In recent interviews, Akure residents said the project, when completed, would help address persistent traffic gridlock along Oba Adesida Road and enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area.

The new bridge comes months after the commissioning of the state’s first flyover at the Onyearugbulem–Shagari–Irese corridor, which the government described as a strategic intervention to ease congestion and stimulate commercial activities.

Olabode Omoyele however, urged the government to put in place palliative measures for traders and business owners who may be affected during construction, in line with calls by other civic groups in the state.

“The government must ensure minimal disruption and provide alternative arrangements where necessary,” he added. “What matters is that at the end of the day, Akure people get a befitting infrastructure they can be proud of.”

The governor assured residents that more “life-changing projects” would be executed across the state in the months ahead, as his administration pushes to change the narrative of neglect often associated with the state capital.

Olabode also appealed to Gov.Aiyedatiwa to ensure the contractors are up and doing on the project and do not leave anything to chance as regards timeframe expected for contract completion..
