Olusegun Agagu Foundation holds 12th edition scholarship presentation

Olusegun Agagu Foundation (OAF), a Nigerian nonprofit Foundation established to keep the legacy of the late Dr.Olusegun Kokumo Agagu,CON, former Governor of Ondo State and renowned academic in the field of Geology alive, has held the 12th edition of the presentation of scholarship awards to beneficiaries across Ondo South.
The presentation of scholarship awards to the worthy beneficiaries held on Wednesday, 2nd September at Stella Maris College Okitipupa. The event was graced by the Foundation Committee members, Director from the Area Education Office, Mr.Oritunmise, Head Teachers of Primary schools, Principals of Secondary schools in Okitipupa led by the ANCOPS Chairperson of the zone and host Principal,Mrs. Janet Oyepitan, Parents of the beneficiaries and others.
In his goodwill address, the Secretary of the Foundation, Elder Sunday Oyepitan congratulated the young scholars and beneficiaries for the effort they had put into emerging successful from the test and examination as well as interviews conducted. He noted that indeed, their emergence is an indication of not just brilliance but resilience, adding that the process of selecting the beneficiaries is modelled on ensuring that only the best get the scholarship offer.
While stressing that Dr.Olusegun Agagu in his life time was passionate about ensuring that students get quality education, he charged the awardees who will be starting their degree programs with the aid of Olusegun Agagu Foundation at Adeleke University (AU) Ede to acquit themselves creditably well in their studies and justify the purpose for which the scholarship was offered them, hammering on the need for them to maintain a strong Grade Point Average (GPA) in the university so they can draw from the scholarship till the end of their study.
“We want to draw the attention of prospective Adeleke University Undergraduates who are on Olusegun Agagu Foundation scholarship to the fact that as they resume to the university, the Foundation will not tolerate any attempt to change their university of study or course of choice mid program as the understanding between the Foundation and the scholars is that the course of study they are gaining admission to pursue and at Adeleke University is the pillar on which the scholarships are offered to them,” Elder Oyepitan emphasized.
The University scholars are Taiwo Akintelure, Mechanical Engineering ,Akintan ayodeji, microbiology
Otuyemi Timothy Oluwanifemi,
Computer science and engineering.
The rest are Fagbemigun Ololade,
Computer Science and Engineering
and Ogunbamerun Oluwatobi, Microbiology.
Speaking earlier at the Program, the Chair of the Foundation, Very Revd.Emmanuel Olorunwa Akinboyo, Provost Diocese on The Coast, said Olusegun Agagu Foundation has been on since 2014, and that is 12 years of providing scholarships for students across the old Okitipupa Division from which not less than 60 graduates,a good number of them First class graduates have been produced. He noted also that since 2014, 5 students every year had benefitted from primary schools across the old Okitipupa Division with scholarships to continue their secondary education at Adeleke University High School,Ede,while 30 students every year based on their quality performance in the pre scholarship assessment get cash awards of N100,000 each to cater for their entry expenses in Junior Secondary School ( JSS1).
“We want the beneficiaries, those 30 getting cash awards of hundred thousand Naira each, to spend the money judiciously and the committee is going to be particular about this as we shall ensure the cash grant is not spent on frivolity or concerns that bear no connect to their education. There will be collaboration between the Principals of Secondary Schools of the beneficiaries and the Foundation towards ensuring close monitoring of the judicious use of the cash grant to achieve the aim of providing academic support for the young scholars,” the cleric maintained.
Major highlight of the program was the presentation of the scholarships to the awardees, 40 in all grouped into 30 primary six students going to secondary schools who are benefitting cash support grants of one hundred thousand Naira each, 5 primary school scholars with full scholarship to study at Adeleke University High School and 5 prospective Undergraduates who are going to Adeleke University (AU) Ede for their degree programs effective from September 2026.
Mr.Fagbemigun, a retired teacher who spoke at the event thanked the Foundation on behalf of the parents of the beneficiaries and charged the beneficiaries to focus squarely on their studies so that they can continue to be good ambassadors of the Foundation.
While speaking on the fringe of the event with thepolity.net, the Secretary of the Foundation, Elder Sunday Oyepitan noted that apart from students being sponsored at the university level at Adeleke University,Ede, there are others on the scheme who are benefitting from the Foundation, studying at The University of Ibadan, Federal University of Technology,Akure, FUTA and Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko,AAUA. “We implore parents to take advantage of Olusegun Agagu Foundation (OAF) to smoothen the path of the career of their children; there are so many brilliant students whose parents are indigent, so the Foundation is an instrument to polish the academic pursuit of students whose parents do not have the wherewithal to shoulder the financial responsibility of sending their wards to higher institution,” Elder Oyepitan maintained
One of the beneficiaries, Master Taiwo Akintelure, speaking with thepolity.net said he is very happy to be among the awardees, noting that all the beneficiaries are grateful to the Foundation while assuring that the scholarship will spur them to put in their best at Adeleke University.
