Ondo assembly crisis: stakeholders move to bring peace to the house.

There is now a strong indication that the crisis rocking the Ondo state House of Assembly shall soon become an issue of the past, if the peace moves embarked on by stakeholders in the state is anything to go by.

Traditional rulers in the state are said to have begun a peace parley aimed at bringing the two warring factions of the state parliament to a round table where a truce would be reached.

The crux of the matter in the state assembly is the purported removal of the Speaker, Hon Jumoke Akindele by 13 members of the House on the strength of an allegation of fraud and financial impropriety leveled against her.

Since the alleged impeachment of Akindele on January 26th 2017, the House had been in turmoil, hampering the legislative function of that important organ of government in Ondo state. As matters stand now, the 2017 budget of the state has not been presented as the last attempt of the state Governor to present the all important document met with the stiff resistance of the group loyal to the factional speaker of the House, Hon. Coker Malachy.

While the outgoing Governor Olusegun Mimiko has met with some members of the House Leadership with the hope of resolving the imbroglio, the traditional rulers are also reaching out to the arrow heads of the warring factions.

In a related development, the impeached speaker, Jumoke Akindele has described her alleged impeachment as an illegitimate action that cannot stand. In an interview with the Press in Akure, the state capital, Hon Akindele maintained that those House members claiming to have removed her are turncoats and attention seekers whose attempt to turn arithmetic logic on its head is pitiable and laughable.
