Pius Odubu, Ize Iyamu slug it out as Edo Apc primary holds
– Steve Ovirih.
All Progressives Congress (APC) party Primaries hold today , June 22nd across 192 wards and units of Edo state. Two notable contestants who scaled through the party’s pre primary screening exercise will be slugging it out today; they are Pastor Alex -Ize Iyamu , who crossed over from PDP to APC December 5th , 2019 and Dr. Pius Odubu, the former Deputy Governor to Comrades Adams Oshiomole.
Pastor Mathew Iduanrinyekemwe and one other candidate who was disqualified by the screening committee are still in court to quash their disqualification, while incumbent Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki who was also screened out based on discrepancies detected in his certificate had left the party for PDP where he is hoping to get the party’s ticket as a consensus candidate.
Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State who chairs the Edo Primaries had earlier given the indication that the primary election will hold today barring any unforeseen circumstances, noting that all arrangements have been put in place to ensure a hitch free party Primaries. The committee had also appealed to all the card carrying members of APC who will be coming out to vote to maintain social distancing while wearing their face masks at their poling units.
Report reaching us from Edo state has it that INEC has mobilised its staff to observe the Primaries while the police are on ground in all the polling wards to maintain peace. Also card carrying APC members have come out in their good numbers and voting actually started after accreditation around 9.30 this morning.
So far, the voting exercise has been peacefully carried out, report says.
