In a significant show of unity, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has collectively declared its support for President Bola Tinubu to run for a second term in 2027. The decision was made during a major stakeholders’ meeting in Jos, which brought together the party’s most influential figures. They argued that the President has worked hard for the nation and has not forgotten Plateau State in his plans.
The party’s leadership, including former Governor Simon Lalong, stood together to announce the endorsement. Lalong stated that the party in the state is now fully united, with past disagreements resolved and former members returning. He pointed to the appointment of their own, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, as the APC’s National Chairman, as a sign of more good things to come for the state through the party.
In a move that signals a firm political stance, the gathering also strongly rejected the idea of allowing the state’s current Governor, Caleb Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to join the APC. This decision was unanimously agreed upon, closing the door to the governor potentially switching sides.
The APC National Chairman, Prof. Yilwatda, thanked the members for their support for the President. He said Tinubu deserves the endorsement for his efforts to improve the country’s economy. Yilwatda also assured new members joining the party that they would be welcomed and treated fairly.
Other leaders, like former Deputy Speaker Idris Wase, used the meeting to warn against gossip and actions that could divide the party. They emphasized that staying united is the only way to ensure progress and success in future elections.
