President Bola Tinubu convened an urgent meeting with the country’s top security commanders on Tuesday. The session at the Presidential Villa in Abuja was called to address a dangerous rise in kidnappings and violence across Nigeria.

The meeting follows a series of high-profile abductions. Schoolchildren and worshippers have been taken in states including Kwara, Niger, and Kebbi. It also occurred shortly after the resignation of the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru.

The security chiefs in attendance were led by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede. The heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force were all present. Also there were the leaders of the Defence Intelligence Agency, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force.

This high-level gathering is a direct response to growing national fear. Recent weeks have seen increased bandit attacks, rural raids, and mass kidnappings putting severe strain on several states.

The closed-door talks are expected to focus on immediate strategies to tackle the security emergency. The government is under intense pressure to restore safety and rescue those who have been abducted.

This emergency security review signals the administration’s recognition of the escalating crisis. The nation now awaits concrete actions and results from its top security leadership.
