A new radio station is set to hit the airwave soon. The radio station, Awawa FM that will be running on the Frequency Modulation of 94.1 has already commenced ‘test transmission’ and its strength of coverage aside reaching it’s focal point , Ikale Land, spreads to Ijebu Land as well as Lagos . It also hopes to reach both Ondo kingdom and Edo State.
The radio station which is a Community Development project of Iye Lumure Bajowa, a non government organization had its sod turning marked during the 2019 Ayeka Ule Day celebration with a mandate of its completion and operation spelt within one year.
The brain behind the Community Development project, and the Regent of Ayeka Kingdom, Princess Barrister Oluyemi Bajowa in a chat with the polity.net expressed satisfaction with the level of work done so far , noting that the Engineers and consultants are working to ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated time frame. She said feed back response gotten so far shows that the radio station will have air wave relevance beyond Ikale Land.
The Regent of Ayeka noted that Ikale culture, language and tradition as well as beliefs and views are better disseminated by a radio station that is proudly Ikale in content development, hence the need to have ‘Awawa FM.’
” We have allowed outsiders to tell our stories for too long and this has led to ample misinformation about our culture. With Awawa FM, distortion about our narratives will be corrected and the station will give our people a cohesive voice to project our demands and our rich cultural heritage,” Regent Oluyemi Bajowa said.
