Supreme Court Affirms Mbah As Enugu Governor

Tamarauemi Ebimini

The Supreme Court has upheld the victory of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State in the March 18 governorship election in the state.

The five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Mohammed garba, in a unanimous judgment on Friday said the Labour Party, and its candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, did not substantiate their allegations of non-compliance.

Mbah was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the election.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos had on November 10 upheld the judgment of the election petitions tribunal, which affirmed Independent National Electoral Commission’s declaration that Mbah won the election.

The three-member panel, headed by Justice Tani Yusuf-Hassan, dismissed the three grounds of the appeal filed by the Labour Party and its candidate for failing to provide sufficient evidence to support their claims that the governor was not qualified to contest the election.
