Residents of Igbokoda in ilaje local government area of Ondo state today cry out to the Government of the state to come to their rescue as the rain that fell yesterday has render them homeless.

The Flood early today ravaged the local government and has forced many residents to vacate their houses, even as they lost many properties.

It could be recalled that the issue of flood ravaged earlier occurred last week in some communities in the coastal areas of the state (Ayetoro ,Awoye, Akinsolu ,Ilowo ,Idiogba etc)which has forced many students out of school, due to the flood that has take over the elementary schools in the areas .

It was gathered that the flood was as a result of lack of drainages, blocked drainages, and poor or swallow drainages that could not cope with intense rainfall in some areas.

In an interview with one of the major stakeholders of the community, he called on both the federal and state government to come to their aid stressing that the people of Igbokoda had suffered much due to the issue of flood.

Also in an interview with some landlords and landlady’s,they displaced personshe attributed the development to blocked drainages and shallow gutters.

They therefore advised residents to stop dumping refuse into the drainages adding that people should stop building on water ways in order to curb the menace.

While inspecting the affected areas, we discovered that over 150 tenants have all vacated their buildings, while business operators have escaped due to the activities of the flood.

The inspected areas are ; Weke Street,Famac ,Market street ,Agbala jedo ,Agbala Aafin, Agbala Premier ,Surulere Street and others .

One of those affected by the flood also lamented that all his documents and properties were almost destroyed by the flood.

He said the flood swept into his house at about 11.00pm in the night, but he managed to escape to another place. He stressed that the community has never experienced such level flooding before, and there is need for urgent government intervention.

As at the time of filing this report, the flood might take over more houses before the day break and might render some homeless as well.
