Kano State Fire Service has confirmed that property worth millions of naira were destroyed by fire at Singer market in Fagge Local Council in the state.

Spokesperson for the service, Public Relations Officer, Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, in a statement, yesterday, said the fire affected shops and the upper building of old Savannah Bank in the area.

According to him, several temporary shops were completely destroyed by the fire, adding that the service was yet to ascertain the cause and the total number of shops affected.

He said: “ The fire service received a distress call at about 2: 18a.m. from one Sai’du Hamza about the fire. On receiving the information, the service mobilised its men and fire fighting vehicles to the scene of the incident and put out the fire. “

Abdullahi recalled how fire fighters from the service were able to put out fire at Kurmi market in the metropolis, on March 1, when the popular Kurmi Market went up in flames, which led to the destruction of about 80 shops and property worth millions of naira.

Recall that Rimi Market in the Municipal Local Council, was also gutted by fire on Wednesday, March 8, leaving 19 shops and a mosque completely destroyed.
