In a bold new tactic, drug traffickers are now hiding illegal substances inside everyday skin cream containers. This discovery was made during a major overnight operation by anti-narcotics agents at a popular Lagos nightclub.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) stormed the club, where they found more than 100 suspects. The raid revealed a sophisticated smuggling method, with a powerful stimulant drug, cocaine, secretly packed into tubes of cosmetic cream.
Officials believe the drugs were being prepared for shipment to the United Kingdom. By using common personal care items, the traffickers hoped to avoid detection by security and customs officials at the borders.
The nightclub, described as a known hotspot for drug activities, was thrown into chaos as agents moved in. Patrons were screened, leading to the arrest of everyone found with illegal substances.
“The use of cream containers shows a dangerous shift in how these criminal groups operate,” an NDLEA officer stated. “They are constantly creating new ways to trick the system.”
This seizure highlights the ongoing battle against drug trafficking networks that connect Nigeria to international markets. The arrest of over 100 people in a single raid points to the scale of the problem, even as authorities score significant victories.
