Your Professorship is a scam and an illegality, ASUU tells Pantanmi.

– Dayo Awotula.

A pall of doubt and derisive umbrage now hangs on the elevation of Dr. Isa Pantanmi, Minister of Communication and Digital Economy , to the post of a Professor as Academic Staff Union of University ( ASUU) has called out the Minister as being at the receiving end of an integrity deficient promotion, citing the fact that Pantanmi cannot be a Minister of The Federal Republic and at the same time function as a University Professor whose academic research work qualifies to be elevated to the position of a sitting university Professor.

ASUU , speaking through its National President, Dr. Shodeke, in a media chat today, said the manner of awarding Professorship to Dr. Pantanmi calls a lot of things to question about the ways and manners academic awards are given in Nigerian universities , stressing that Dr. Pantanmi cannot in all sincerity claimed he had time for any academic research deserving of his elevation.

He noted further that Dr. Pantanmi cannot be a Minister and member of President Muhammadu Buahri’s cabinet and at the same time a lecturer in a university, wondering when Profesoral awards in Nigeria became honorary degrees .

ASUU maintained that the Vice Chancellor and other academics involved in the promotion of Dr. Pantanmi to a Professor in a flagrant disobedience of the rigorous ethics and due process involved in the elevation of a lecturer to the position of a Professor will be sanctioned by ASUU in due course.
