60 million Nigerians into gaming – NDPC

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has disclosed that over 60 million Nigerians actively participate in various forms of gaming.

This was revealed by the commission’s National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, during an interview on Channels TV on Friday.

The NDPC had on Wednesday launched its comprehensive five-year data strategic roadmap and action plan (NDP-SRAP 2023-2027).

This multi-faceted plan focuses on five key pillars: governance, ecosystem and technology, human capital development, cooperation and collaboration, as well as funding and sustainability.

Olatunji further elaborated on the roadmap during the interview, highlighting the commission’s commitment to working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders to effectively achieve its strategic objectives.

He said, “The fifth pillar is collaboration and cooperation, collaboration with stakeholders in Nigeria from different sectors and cooperation with international organization, development partners and so on.

“Just last week we had an implementation workshop with members of ICT and Sever Security Committee of the National Assembly, out of the major outcomes of this workshop was for us to partner with stakeholders in different sectors which we are already doing.

“For instance we are working with CBN in terms of privacy when it comes to issue of data protection in the financial sector, we are working with NCC.

“Just about three days ago, the DG of SMEDAN was with us and part of what we agreed is do we properly ensure this law in whatever they are doing because they about 40 million SMEs in their data base.

“We already have MoU with a lot of organizations, for instance we have with Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), we are dealing with lots of information, it maintain that about 60 million Nigerians are into one form of gaming or the other.

“So NCC, CBN Nigeria Health Insurance Authority, these we already worked with a lot, partnership is the key pillar.”
