A church in Gboko, Benue State, lies in ruins after a violent mob attacked it, destroying property worth millions of naira. The attack is linked to claims that a married woman was raped on the church premises earlier that morning. The incident has shocked the local community and raised serious questions.

Sources say the alleged victim was assaulted around 10 a.m. but did not cry out for help because the church is located near a busy road. This silence, however, did not stop the anger from spreading. Just an hour later, a large group of armed youths stormed the Throne of Grace Healing and Deliverance Ministries.

The church’s leader, Prophet Matthew Iorhembe, described how the mob destroyed everything in sight—chairs, musical instruments, and sound systems—before police he called could arrive. He expressed confusion over the attack, stating no one had formally accused him or his church of any wrongdoing. He estimates the damage at over ten million naira.

Authorities have since stepped in. The police confirmed that three suspects have been arrested and an investigation is underway. Local political leaders have also shown interest in the case, hoping to help resolve the tense situation.

As discussions continue, the church leader is urging his members to remain peaceful and let the law handle the matter. The community now waits to see how the police will untangle the truth behind the allegation that sparked such destructive fury.
