By Steve Ovirih.

Senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Prof.Adedayo Faduyile, has mourned the passing of former Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Aid Corps (TAC), Dr. Pius Olakunle Osunyikanmi.

Osunyikanmi, who also served as Commissioner for Education in Ondo State, died on Saturday, October 24, 2026, after a protracted illness. He was 55.

In a condolence message issued in Abuja on Tuesday, Faduyile described the late Osunyikanmi as a distinguished son of Ile-Oluji Kingdom, an accomplished academic and a patriot who dedicated his life to public service.

The lawmaker said he received the news of Osunyikanmi’s death with deep shock.

“I received with deep shock the news of the passing of my dear brother, Dr. Pius Olakunle Osunyikanmi. He was a brilliant academic, a seasoned administrator and a committed public servant who gave his best to Ondo State and Nigeria,” he said.

Faduyile recalled Osunyikanmi’s meritorious service as Commissioner for Education under former Governor Olusegun Mimiko, where he championed far-reaching reforms, as well as his service as Special Adviser on International Relations to the President, and later as DG of the Technical Aid Corps from 2013 to 2023.

According to him, Osunyikanmi demonstrated intellect, humility and unwavering dedication to national development in all his assignments.

The former President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) noted that the deceased’s contributions to education, governance and Nigeria’s foreign assistance programme will remain indelible.

He said the death is a monumental loss not only to Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo but to Ondo State and the nation at large.

Faduyile, on behalf of his family and the people of Ondo South, commiserated with his wife, Prof. Adebukola Osunyikanmi, his children, the entire Osunyikanmi family, and the government and people of Ondo State.

He prayed Almighty God to grant his soul eternal rest and grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
