A major terrorist, Abdulazeez Obadaki, has been caught by the Department of State Services (DSS). Obadaki was one of the hundreds of inmates who escaped from the Kuje prison in Abuja during a major attack in July 2022. His capture ends a long search by security forces.

The Kuje prison break was a major security failure. In July 2022, insurgents attacked the facility, allowing over 800 inmates to flee. Among those who escaped were many dangerous Boko Haram suspects, creating a widespread security threat across the country.

For nearly two years, Obadaki remained free and was linked to several serious crimes. Authorities say he was the mastermind behind a series of violent attacks. These included the robberies of banks in Uromi, Edo State, and a fatal shooting at Deeper Life College in Okene, Kogi State. Both incidents happened in 2022, spreading fear in those communities.

His recapture is a significant victory for Nigeria’s intelligence and security forces. The DSS successfully tracked him down, demonstrating a continued effort to find the escaped prisoners and restore a sense of security.

The government hopes this arrest sends a strong message to other fugitives still in hiding. It shows that security agencies are persistent in their pursuit and that escapees can still be found and returned to custody.

This development brings a measure of relief and justice, particularly for the communities affected by Obadaki’s alleged crimes. It also highlights the ongoing need to address the lingering security challenges stemming from the Kuje prison break.
