Jigawa State police have arrested a newly married woman for allegedly poisoning her husband with a meal containing rat poison. The incident occurred last Friday in Gauza village, Jahun Local Government Area.
Authorities report the man fell violently ill after eating lunch at home. He was rushed to a hospital but died while receiving treatment. Following his death, detectives arrested his wife as the main suspect.
During questioning, the woman confessed to poisoning the food. She told investigators she sent a cousin to buy the rat poison used in the attack.
The suspect claimed her parents forced her into the marriage, stating this situation led her to commit the act. Police have not yet verified this motive.
The State Commissioner of Police has ordered a full investigation by the criminal department in Dutse. Upon completion, the suspect will face prosecution in court.
Police urged the public to remain calm and use legal channels to resolve family disputes, warning against actions with “irreversible consequences.” They reaffirmed their commitment to justice in the state.
