With days to the Ekiti State governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has moved to project unity and consolidate support around its candidate, Dr. Wole Oluyede, as the campaign enters its final stretch. Party leaders say the effort is aimed at strengthening the PDP’s chances ahead of Saturday’s poll in the South-West state.

Speaking at the grand finale of the party’s governorship rally in Ado-Ekiti over the weekend, the PDP National Woman Leader, Professor Adenike Ogunse, assured members that the National Working Committee and key stakeholders within the party were fully committed to Oluyede’s candidacy.

She said consultations had been held to ensure a coordinated campaign heading into the election.
According to Ogunse, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had intended to attend the rally alongside members of the national leadership but was unable to do so due to circumstances beyond his control. She, however, maintained that support for the candidate remained intact.

The party leadership also sought to address questions surrounding its flag bearer, insisting that Oluyede remains the officially recognised PDP candidate for the June 20 governorship election. Ogunse pointed to records on the electoral commission’s portal as evidence of the party’s position and expressed confidence in the candidate’s prospects at the ballot box.

For voters, the coming election is expected to focus heavily on governance priorities and campaign promises. At the rally, Oluyede outlined key areas he said would receive immediate attention if elected governor, including road infrastructure, healthcare services, agriculture and entrepreneurship-driven job creation.

The PDP candidate pledged to begin rehabilitation of township roads within his first 100 days in office and promised improvements in the health sector. He argued that while Ekiti has qualified medical professionals, challenges linked to equipment shortages and limited service coverage must be addressed, presenting those issues as part of the agenda he hopes to pursue if voters hand him the mandate on Saturday.
