44 Days in kidnappers den: do not forget the Oriire abductees, Olabode tells Nigerians

A Public affairs analyst and Ondo South All Progressives Congress stalwart, Mr. Olabode Omoyele has appealed to Nigerians across creed and religion to continue to remember the abducted students of Oriire in Ogbomoso Area of Oyo State in their prayers, charging the security formation in Nigeria to increase the tempo and effort aimed at rescuing them before their case become a better forgotten narrative like that of Chibok and Daptchi school kidnappings.

Olabode was making this appeal to Nigerians earlier Monday morning in an exclusive interview session with select journalists where he noted that Nigerians have a penchant for getting momentarily agitated over challenging development in the country but the tempo of agitation rises and falls with same energy and vibe of agitation and in no time, people easily put behind them issues of trend and interest as new ones fly all over the social space.

“On the 15th May 2026, the story of the Oriire kidnapping broke in the social media getting all well meaning Nigerians of good conscience agitated. There were calls to ensure the kidnappers did not escape up north with their preys who are precious young kids in the eyes of their loved ones and the Yoruba society that values children as heritage of the Lord and gifts of nature to parents.

“The marauders did not just invade the town but broke the quite sacredness of a learning environment by stealing away a horde of students and even killing a teacher who made effort to escape.

“As we speak two teachers connected to the incident had been killed, one during the school abduction and the other in the thick forest. Nigerians must not allow this sad incident to slide away as new developments are seizing the headlines. So, as Christians, Muslims and traditionalists, we must pray until they return because if we gat carried away by other headlines and socioeconomic activities in the country, it will become a sad blight of history that Chibok kidnapping had happened in Yoruba land again,” Omoyele lamented.

He charged both Federal Government and Oyo State government to step up their search activities for the sake of reuniting the victims with their family, stressing that both the children of Oriire and their teachers committed no offence by going to school on the fateful day.

Olabode noted that the lackluster effort at bringing a closure to the Oyo Kidnapping saga is simply creating further the impression that the masses are not safe since within the same spate of time, two kids and their mother who belonged to a well place d personality in Oyo State were kidnapped and rescued within 72 hours.

The onus is on Oyo state govt to collaborate with inter agencies on security to bring this sad tale to a necessary ending without killing the hope of the relatives of the kidnapped victims.
