Former Labour Party vice presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has defended his right to speak openly about Peter Obi, amid growing criticism from supporters of the former presidential candidate.
In an interview with Symfoni TV, Baba-Ahmed accused members of the Obidient movement of repeatedly attacking him whenever he makes comments they consider unfavourable to Obi. He said the criticism would not stop him from expressing his views.
The former running mate also warned that he had more damaging information to disclose about Obi and the 2023 presidential election if the attacks against him continued. However, he did not provide further details of the information during the interview.
Baba-Ahmed maintained that he remains a loyal member of the Labour Party, insisting that his disagreements with Obi’s supporters should not be interpreted as a departure from the party or a reason to silence him.
His latest comments come amid disagreements over Obi’s reported move towards an opposition coalition involving the African Democratic Congress. Baba-Ahmed has criticised the political direction, drawing strong reactions from supporters who have accused him of turning against the former Anambra State governor.
Some of those supporters have also alleged that Baba-Ahmed is working in the interest of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The report, however, provides no evidence to establish that allegation.
The disagreement highlights divisions among political figures and supporters who were previously united under the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential campaign, raising questions about their political relationship as discussions over future alliances continue.
