President, National Union of chemical, footwear, Rubber, Leather and non – metallic Products Employees, Mr. Goke Olatunji, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to make the payment of new minimum wage a priority.
Olatunji, while making the call in an exclusive interview, added that government should look into the minimum wage issue as it has now become of utmost importance in the polity. He noted that the present #18,000 minimum wage is no longer able to buy anything in the market, hence government should increase it without such leading to inflation.
It will be recalled that the Nigeria Labour Congress in April, 2016 officially submitted a report to demand for #56,000 minimum wages.
Meanwhile, the Technical Committee on minimum wage had submitted its report one year after the committee was set up by the Federal Government.
