Ayade locks out workers over lateness

Tamarauemi Ebimini

Cross River Governor Ben Ayade on Wednesday locked out many workers in Governor’s office over lateness to work.

The Governor reported to office around 8am and by 8.30 am ordered closure of the gate, leaving several workers stranded.

Many of the workers were surprised over the Governor’s order because they thought he was still overseas after one month of investment drive there.

Head of Service, Mr. Timothy Akwaji said the decision to discipline the workers was as a result of lateness.

He said: “His team arrived at the governor’s office yesterday and took note of workers that were not in duty.

“Today, the team came back and some workers still came late to work despite the presence of his team yesterday and hence the decision to shut them out.”

He explained that administrative measures would be taken against the late coming workers.

As at 1.pm, the Governor was yet to order reopening of the gate.

Even visitors were affected as they couldn’t access the Government House for business.
