The President of the flagship Labour movement in Nigeria, Nigeria Labour Congress , NLC ,Comrade Joe Ajaero has debunked the rumour that there is discord within the ranks of NLC , describing the rumor as bunkum discharge by those who are already fretting over the approaching nation wide strike billed to kick off on Wednesday June 7th with Mother of all protests across Nigeria.
Ajaero noted that it is unfortunate that the haters of the masses are already inputting ethnicsm into the pure pro masses demand of NLC that status quo ante should be maintained between the Federal Government and Labour over the fuel subsidy removal matter until all further negotiations are concluded, stressing emphatically that Nigeria Labour Congress is not for the South East but strictly to protect the interest of the masses of Nigeria and the workers who are already worst hit and feeling the heat of the fuel subsidy removal.
Ajaero , in a statement obtained by thepolity.net said categorically that the only approach to halting the strike on Wednesday is for Federal government to hearken to Labour’s demands which are very simple demands. He noted that there is no division in the leadership of NLC as being rumored by the enemies of the masses , adding that if there is anything at all, it is a strong resolve by all the committees of the NLC to collaborate towards the planned protest and industrial action.
While urging the Media to stop orchestrating the baseless and unfounded rumor of a schism within NLC, Joe Ajaero noted that a major demand of Labour was the use of Compressed Natural Gas ( CNG) as alternative to premium motor spirit, PMS, even as he stressed that this resolve if effected will push back the price of PMS to as low as between N90 to N120 . ” The use of this alternative approach CNG had been in the offing since 2021 and the Minister of State for Petroleum had promised on effecting it to but it didn’t see the light of the day.”
Ajaero lamented that taking a unilateral decision on fuel subsidy without making a huge pre arrangement to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal on the masses is a step the Labour movement cannot countenance as their mandate is to ensure government policies do not impact convenience of Nigerian workers negatively.
