ADEBUTU RETURNS TO 2027 RACE, URGES PDP UNITY IN OGUN.

Fresh political calculations are emerging in Ogun State as former governorship candidate Oladipupo Adebutu signals a renewed push for power, calling on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to close ranks ahead of the 2027 elections.

Adebutu, who contested under the PDP in 2023, formally declared his intention to run again in a letter dated April 30, 2026, addressed to party leaders at both state and local government levels. The correspondence was routed through the PDP structure in Odogbolu Local Government and made public by his media team on Friday.

In the letter, the former candidate acknowledged the role of party faithful in sustaining the PDP’s presence in Ogun State, emphasizing that unity among stakeholders will be decisive in determining the party’s chances at the polls. He stressed that internal cooperation, rather than division, would shape the outcome of the next electoral cycle.

Adebutu also outlined his motivation for re-entering the race, pointing to his previous experience and continued involvement in party activities as factors driving his decision. According to him, his ambition is rooted in a desire to strengthen governance and deliver policies that address the needs of residents across the state.

Political observers say the early declaration signals the start of internal positioning within the PDP, as aspirants begin consultations and mobilization ahead of party primaries. Analysts note that such moves often test party cohesion, especially in states where opposition parties are seeking to consolidate support.

Adebutu, however, sought to ease concerns over potential divisions, assuring members of his readiness to work with all factions within the party. He reiterated that building consensus and maintaining discipline within the PDP structure would be critical if the party hopes to mount a competitive challenge in Ogun State come 2027.
