Confusion in Immigration HQ over CG’s resumption

There is confusion at the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters following the tenure extension of the Comptroller-General, Isah Idris Jere.

President Muhammadu Buhari was said to have extended Jere’s tenure by one month, meaning he would remain in office till May 29.

A statement by the NIS spokesperson, Tony Akuneme, said the tenure extension was contained in a letter by the president’s Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari. He said the approval remains the official position of things irrespective of any previous development.

He added that Jere has since resumed duties at the service headquarters.

Recall that some concerned stakeholders had petitioned President Buhari over alleged moves by Jere to seek another tenure extension after the initial one-year extension lapsed on April 24.

President Buhari, in an April 22, 2022 letter to the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, through Prof. Gambari, announced the tenure extension by one year after his tenure expired in 2022.
