A medical expert and Professor of Medicine, Prof. Dayo Faduyile , OON, has harped on the need for girls to get vaccinated against Human Papimmola Virus ( HPV), noting that it has been implicated in many cancers especially cervical cancer.

The Special Adviser on Health delivered this charge in the weekly Health tips bulletin from his office, a copy of which was obtained by the polity.net

Prof. Faduyile , while canvassing the need for girls to get vaccinated against HPV stressed that it is mostly contacted through sexual intercourse and the vaccine protects against HPV related cancers especially in cervical cancer. ” Ideally, girls should be vaccinated before they get exposed to sexual intercourse; preferably, all girls between the ages of 9 to 14 should be vaccinated. Though for boys, it is not a priority, they may receive the vaccine as well,” he maintained.

On the functionality of the vaccine, Prof. Faduyile said it works by strengthening body immune system to Human Papilloma virus infections, adding that it offers strong protection against cervical cancer and genital warts both in males and females.

The Special Adviser on Health, Ondo State indicated that HPV Vaccine is not only safe and effective but it is equally free, noting however that the vaccine should not be taken in pregnancy.

” The vaccine will be available in all our Health facilities from the 1st quarter of 2024,” Prof. Faduyile added.
