Faduyile clears misconception about breast cancer, seeks collaboration to end scorge.

The Special Adviser on Health, Ondo State and former National President, Nigeria Medical Association ( NMA), Prof. Dayo Faduyile, OON, has made clarifications on the scorge of Breast Cancer , driving awareness to clear misconceptions about the cancer health challenge.

Speaking with thepolity. net on Cancer, Prof.Faduyile noted that against the background of wrong opinion in the public space, ” breast injury cannot cause breast cancer. ” He added that it is wrong to assume underwares and brassieres can cause cancer.

Faduyile said emphatically that IVF cannot in anyway increase the risk of breast cancer and not all breast lumps can be adduced as breast cancer.

The Professor of Pathology and Forensic Medicine who was engaged by thepolity.net in an exclusive chat stressed that abortion cannot increase the risk of breast cancer. He said while it is not encouraging to keep phone in the Bra, it is not a risk factor for cancer of the breast.

While listing other exercise that cannot result to breast cancer, Prof. Faduyile said, ” Nipple piercing, Sugar consumption cannot cause cancer while Mammogram is not indicative of cause of cancer spread.

” We have to put the matter in perspective by reiterating that breast cancer can occur without family history and it can be seen in all age groups. Also , breast cancer can spring without prior lump and more importantly , breast cancer can also occur in men.” He indicated that working together as a health community with awareness on the need to end cancer spread is a major step in the right direction.

While analysing the preventive steps to averting cancer, Prof. Faduyile avered that generally speaking, Cigarettee or tobacco smoking should be stopped by both men and women, while people should endeavour to take healthy diet with more of fruits and vegetables. ” It is also important for our people to reduce or stop altogether their intake of alcohol and they should fight the tendency to be overweight by indulging regular walkout and prompt exercise. ”

Faduyile advised Nursing mothers to indulge exclusive breast feeding and that they should ensure regular breast examination to know the conditions of their breast. ” We also want to encourage our women to avoid hormone therapy for menopause and they should practice periodic Mammogram screening. For those with a family history of breast cancer , more regular check is canvassed.

” We must stress that if any young girl, lady or woman detects or notices any abnormality in her breast , she must seek early and prompt medical care.”

As regards the treatment for Cancer, Prof. Faduyile canvassed urgent removal of cancer lumps, mastectomy , Chemoterapy and Radiography. He reiterated early detection for prompt cure , stressing however that prevention is alwasy better than cure.
