– Steve Ovirih.

Prof. Dayo Faduyile, OON, has called the attention of Nigerians to the need for them to make their mental health matter ‘ a first must do on their scale of preference’ even as he noted that mental health issues do not define who a person is , adding that , they are experienced.

The Professor of Pathology and Forensic Medicine, who doubles as Special Adviser on Health to Ondo State Government dropped this hint in his weekly Health Nugget, which was obtained by thepolity. net

Prof. Faduyile said challenges have exposed a lot of Nigerians to mental health issues , stressing that those experiencing the mental health challenge do not have to struggle in silence as government hospitals have adequate personnel and facilities to address such health issue.

While craving people’s indulgence about healthy living, which he noted is a panacea to a healthy life style, he appealed particularly to the good people of Ondo State to endeavour to engage in consciously assessing their good health status at all time so that they can discover earlier whatever the health challenge is that may be lurking in their system , adding that early discovery of health issues aid prompt healing and recovery process.

While highlighting the four dimensions of healthy living, the Ondo State Special Adviser on Health said healthy living maximizes one’s abilities and innate potentials while allowing one to cope with ‘ normal’ stress of life. He noted , ” healthy living makes you to always be fruitful and productive both at home and at work and it will make you to contribute your time , talent and treasures for the greater good of the society .

” When your health is sound you will have a better chance to manage negative thoughts , feelings and emotions.”

Faduyile stressed that being fit mentally enhances emotional intelligence , improved emotional resilience, allows for greater frustration tolerance threshold and provides one with the ability to cope with sudden changes of life which humans cannot but encounter one way or the other.

” It is important to note that people who have mental fitness have the capacity to bounce back after setbacks, they possess quantity and quality life , have fantastic intra and interpersonal relationship and have the ability to be happy at all times ,” Prof. Faduyile added.

He cautioned people against stigmatizing sufferers of mental health challenge, while noting that in most cases all that is needed is for early detection and prompt medical therapy.
