A ceremony in Ile-Ife, Osun State, was marked by a public exchange between Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and Governor Ademola Adeleke. The incident occurred during the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife.
A viral video shows Governor Adeleke singing as part of his speech. The First Lady approached him on the podium, appearing to give an instruction.
When the Governor resumed singing after her initial warning, Mrs. Tinubu returned. She was heard telling him to limit his speech to five minutes, threatening to switch off the microphone.
The event was held to install the First Lady with the traditional title “Yeye Asiwaju Gbongbo Ile Oodua.” Many traditional rulers and political leaders attended.
The direct intervention highlighted concerns over the event’s schedule. It underscored the formal protocols often governing such high-profile gatherings.
The moment has sparked discussion on public etiquette between leading officials. The ceremony otherwise proceeded with the title conferred as planned.
