Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) arrested former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami on Monday in Abuja. The senior lawyer was picked up outside the Kuje Correctional Centre after he visited the prison.

A security source confirmed the arrest, stating it is connected to multiple petitions. These petitions accuse Malami of involvement in terrorism financing.

The source noted that terrorism financing is a serious global crime. They added that no responsible government would ignore such claims, even against a high-ranking former official.

The arrest carries a notable irony. As the nation’s top justice official, Malami had publicly vowed that the government would not protect anyone linked to terrorism or its funding.

The DSS is the lead agency for investigating terrorism-related matters in Nigeria. The source explained that inter-agency cooperation is a normal part of such security probes.

Malami is now held by the DSS as their investigation continues. The development marks a significant legal moment involving a former key member of the federal government.
