Ganduje Dethrones Emir of Kano; Sanusi Lamido says power is not permanent

Steve Ovirih.

From Kano comes this evening, 9th March, the news that the government of Governor Umaru Ganduje has sacked His Royal Highness Sanusi Lamido from the seat of the Emir of Kano. The news from Kano was least expected , though there have been underhand tussle between the Kano Emirate and the state house.

The dethroned emir was accused of corruption and insubodination to the government of Kano state.

The dethronement was with immediate effect and the sacked emir is to go on exile in Nasarawa state. It will be recalled that the government of Kano state had earlier issued query to ex Emir Lamido Sanusi .

In his reaction , the dethroned emir said the throne of Emir is not permanent and every king and leader should know that, stressing that if it was permanent throne , he wouldn’t been emir of Kano. ” Before I came , someone was emir and before him someone else was there. Whenever God says your time on the throne is over if you don’t leave with your legs people will carry you out. It is Allah who owns and gives power and He gives and takes it at will, so no power is permanent,” Sanusi Lamido Sanusi emphasised.

In related development , a brand new emir of Kano has been enthroned. He is Aminu Ado Bayero, a royal blue blood from the royal Ado Bayero dynasty. His appointment to the Emirate was announced by the state government without delay.

The former emir of Kano was enmeshed in confidence crisis with the government of President Good luck Jonathan when he held sway as the CBN Governor. Sanusi has been known to be a forthright critic who doesn’t care whose ox is gored with his fierce and fairy criticism.

What is ironical in this dethronement saga is that the government of Umaru Ganduje which alleged Sanusi Lamido of corruption among other charges was also accused of outright corrupt practice which bordered on video taped bribery, but was left off the hook in a circumstances that leaned on legalese that roused outcry and opprobrium in the polity.

The question arises , what will be the relationship between the newly enthroned emir and other emirs already elevated by the government of Umaru Ganduje?
