Former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje has announced his intent to reconcile with his longtime political rival, Rabiu Kwankwaso. Ganduje made the statement publicly during an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday.
“I am hoping that very soon we will reconcile with Kwankwaso so that we can move forward,” Ganduje stated in the broadcast interview. This marks a direct and rare overture from Ganduje toward his former boss, with whom he has had a strained relationship for years.
The political feud between the two prominent Kano figures has defined the state’s politics for nearly a decade. Ganduje succeeded Kwankwaso as governor of Kano State, after which their alliance dissolved into a deep and often contentious rivalry.
The public reconciliation offer comes amidst ongoing political realignments at the national level. Analysts view the move as a significant development that could reshape political calculations in the influential northern state.
As of now, there has been no immediate public response from Rabiu Kwankwaso or his political camp to Ganduje’s statement. Kwankwaso is the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and remains a major opposition figure.
The potential reconciliation, if it materializes, could have major implications for party strength and electoral strategy in Kano State ahead of future elections. Observers are awaiting any formal steps or reciprocal gestures to follow the public declaration.
