Gbajabiamila says pandemic has exposed the challenges in Nigeria’s health sector .

Speaker of the House of Representatives , Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila said the COVID 19 pandemic really exposed the underbelly of Nigeria’s health institution, adding that the Covid 19 challenge brought about a lot of interventions made by both the office of the Speaker and The House of Representatives.

” Since the inception of the 9th House, there have been a lot of unprecedented interventions in the health sector by the National Assembly and this includes the addressing of issues related to industrial actions by health workers.

” The health sector no doubt needs a lot of reforms in the area of infrastructural development and man power training and retraining ; we can’t deny the fact that we do not have challenge with both our infrastructure and personnel in the health sector in Nigeria. However, it is reassuring to note that health reform is a cardinal agenda of our Legislative Agebda,” Gbajabiamila added.

The Right Honourable Speaker House of Representatives made this known during the closing session of a three day training for health workers where he gave the assurance that the National Assembly will continue to provide funds to strengthen the health sector in the country.

In his remark at the training , President , Nigerian Medical Association ( NMA), Prof . Innocent Ujah while thanking the Speaker for his innovative ideas called on him to sustain it as there is room for a proactive improvement in the nation’s health sector.
