General election : Buhari is President – elect.

The incumbent President of Nigeria, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari( rtd) has emerged President – elect in the just concluded poll in the country. Buhari secured 15,195, 847 votes to beat his closest rival, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who polled 11,262,978 votes.
Omoyele Showore came a distant third 33,953 votes. While Moghalu polled 21,086 votes , Fela Durotoye managed to garner 16, 779 votes.
President Muhammadu Buhari is the second retired military head of state to be re elected for a second term in Nigeria after Chief Olusegun Obassnjo.
The keenly contested election was a serious joust for political relevance between the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC and Peoples Democratic party, PDP.
The Presidential and National Assembly election, which was originally fixed for 16th February but was postponed to 23rd February was fraught with pockets of violence in Lagos , Rivers , Imo and Abia state.
The President -elect’s second term which terminates in 2023 commences in full swing from June 12 of this year.
