A group, the Centre for Democracy and Human Rights (CEDEHUR), yesterday, called for the release of embattled super cop, Abba Kyari, to help unravel those behind the killing of Superintendent of Police (SP) Bako Angbadhim, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada Divisional Police Headquarters in Rivers State.
While commiserating with families and friends of the deceased police officer, the group said his killers should not go unpunished.
The centre described the detained Kyari and his team as competent officers who could use technology to unearth the brains behind the dastardly act.
“CEDEHUR would like to condole with the family of the deceased Angbashim and the Nigeria Police Force on his gruesome murder.
“Angbashim was a super cop in his own right and did an excellent job of clearing cultists and safeguarding both Akinima and Finima as DPO, so much so that both communities protested against his redeployment.
“ He was also posted to Bori Divisional Police Headquarters as DPO, where he also cleared the cultists and made Bori town safer. He was conferred with a chieftaincy title and won the award for DPO of the month continuously between February and September 2023, by virtue of his crime fighting and prevention skills.
“Angbashim was later posted to Ahoada as DPO and he led his men to clear out cultists several times, including the very sad day he was ambushed and gruesomely murdered by cultists,” the group said.
CEDEHUR called on President Bola Tinubu to release Kyari and his team, to continue his intelligence and technology-led fight against terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, cultists and other dangerous criminals terrorising the people.
