Hon Nicholas Akinbiola, Irele stakeholders distribute palliatives

Succor came for the indigent and the vulnerable at Irele, the headquarters of Irele local government on Sunday, the 17th May, as the Chairman of the local government council, Hon. Nicholas Akinbiola in company with eminent “citizens of Irele” provided food items as ‘Covid -19 palliatives’ for the people of the town .
Since the record of the first index case of coronavirus disease in Nigeria on February 27th, 2020, lot of things have changed in the country and the reality of the community spread of the contagion had made the decision of a lockdown an unavoidable resolve by the Federal Government.
In Ondo state, government has declared a dusk to dawn curfew with a charge to the people of the state to adhere strictly to the COVID 19 safety protocols.
In its stride , the stalking coronavirus has affected local economy of the people and to this end, “the eminent citizens of Irele” has decided to reach out to the less privileged in the community with reliefs running into five hundred bags of food items which contained tubers of yam, garri, rice, beans and noodles.
At the Civic center, venue of the distribution of the food items, it was observed that the palliatives were distributed without bias to political party or affiliation as people across party lines in their hordes converged on the venue to benefit from the largess .
While addressing newsmen as the distribution of the palliatives was on course, the Irele local government council Chairman, Hon . Akinbiola said the palliatives could not have come at a better time, noting that there is a high rate of poverty in the land, thus the reliefs distributed will go a long way in cushioning the harsh effect of the pandemic for the beneficiaries.
He thanked the eminent people of the town who came up with the idea, stressing that his government has also used the medium of the palliatives’ distribution to give the people in the grassroots who came for the palliatives awareness talk on all the necessary safety guidelines required to be adhered to so as to avert contracting the deadly virus.
Beaming with smiles, Elder Eromidayo who came all the way from Iyansan for the palliatives thanked Hon. Akinbiola and others who made the distribution of the relief items possible . While speaking with the polity.net, Elder Eromidayo said , ” the people of Irele local government are happy and I am very happy because the food items will push the days forward.”
Another aged woman who also spoke with thepolity.net , Madam Deborah Akinmeji said she first thought it was a hoax but when she was given her own bag, she thanked God that she came. She prayed God to clean the land of the unseen virus while thanking Hon. Nicholas Akinbiola for the kind gesture.
