Ilaje/Ese-Odo ‘Law school students’ give Osopadec two week ultimatum
– Steve Ovirih.
If the bursary of Nigerian Law school students of Ilaje/Ese-Odo extraction is not paid in the next two weeks by the Ondo state oil producing area intervention agency, Osopadec, the affected Law school students will have no other option than to stage a massive protest to the headquarters of the agency, said the representatives of the Law school students, Mr. Abel Thomson.
The Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC) is saddled with the responsibility of the payment of bursary to students of tertiary institution who are from the oil producing area of Ondo state as well as the Law school students.
In a statement made available to thepolity.net, the affected students noted that the body language of OSOPADEC tilts towards a huge indifference to the plight of the Law school students of Ilaje/Ese-Odo , adding that they are disappointed that the intervention agency is trying to dodge its responsibility to the Law school students.
The statement which was signed by the trio of Mr. Abel Thomson, Ayetomowo Sunday and Irene David, stated that they are registering their displeasure over the non- payment of their bursary by Osopadec as this non- payment is affecting their smooth sail at the Law school. They said they had visited OSOPADEC office and both the Chairman and Secretary were not on seat.
They therefore gave the body two weeks ultimatum to pay their bursary so as to avoid a massive protest by them and all the youths of Ilaje / Ese-Odo, stressing that at the expiration of the ultimatum Ilaje and Ese -Odo youths shall occupy both Osopadec offices at Igbokoda and Akure.
In the letter which Nigerian Law School students of the two oil producing local government areas of Ondo state submitted at the headquarters of the agency, it was alleged that , ” the commission is deliberately refusing to pay the bursary as the message last communicated to them in December 2019 was that they will call them (the Law school students) to come and pick their cheques and up till now nothing has happened.”
