Invasion of The Nation condemnable- Dapo Abiodun

– Steve Ovirih.

The Governor of Ogun State, Gov. Dapo Abiodun has described as highly condemnable and irresponsible the arson visited on the premises of Vintage Press Ltd, publisher of The Nation news paper, a leading national Daily in Nigeria.

Gov. Abiodun speaking through his Commissioner for Information, Mr. Waheed Odusile , said the fourth estate of the realm deserves a better deal from members of the public. The Ogun State Governor has raised a special delegate of Ogun State cabinet to visit the media outfit to commiserate with them over the loss the newspaper outfit incurred during the October EndSARS protest.

Governor Abiodun noted that Press Houses are deemed as sacred as a court room and it is the last place a hoodlum or legion of unruly miscreants should think of vandalizing, noting that unfortunately, the hoodlums who had hijacked the October protests indulged in a flight of reason and common sense and motivated by hatred for the truth which The Nation reports, simply went ahead to burn down the Media House , which over the years has established its right of place as a beacon of frank and unbiased print journalism in Nigeria.

The Ogun State Governor who spoke through his Commissioner for Information, Waheed Odusile, said he saluted the promptness with which The Nation sprang back to the newsstand following mob attack on its facilities , stressing that the resilience of the newspaper outfit is a study in the undying spirit of the Nigerian journalism and its ability to weather any ranging storm.

Responding on behalf of The Nation , its Managing Director, Mr. Victor Ifijeh thanked the Ogun State Chief Executive , stressing that no amount of intimidation can dissuade The Nation from churning out unbiased news and frank commentaries which have become the hallmark of the national newspaper since its inception.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Information, it will be recalled , was a front line Editor of The Nation newspaper until recently when he was appointed by Gov. Dapo Abiodun to man the Ogun State Ministry of Information.
