A fresh wave of concern over Nigeria’s security architecture has emerged following a deadly attack in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos, where no fewer than 29 people were killed on Palm Sunday, prompting renewed calls for accountability from political leaders.
Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Adewole Adebayo, visited the affected community in Plateau State and used the moment to question the Federal Government’s response to the worsening security situation across the country.
Speaking during the visit, Adebayo said the scale and persistence of attacks in communities like Anguwan Rukuba point to deeper challenges in how security threats are being handled, insisting that the government must move beyond rhetoric to decisive action.
He argued that those behind the violence are not beyond the reach of law enforcement, stressing that with the right level of commitment, perpetrators can be identified and prosecuted. According to him, repeated incidents of killings and destruction suggest gaps in execution rather than lack of capacity.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday night, left dozens dead and several others injured, further compounding fears among residents who say they are increasingly vulnerable despite ongoing security efforts in parts of Plateau State.
Adebayo, who expressed sympathy with the victims and their families, maintained that leadership must be measured by its ability to protect lives and property, especially in regions experiencing recurring violence.
He also urged security agencies to intensify operations in affected areas, while calling on authorities at all levels to demonstrate clearer coordination and urgency in addressing what many observers describe as a growing national security challenge.
