Emerging conversations among key opposition figures are beginning to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape, with fresh indications that long-standing rival blocs may be exploring common ground ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Dele Momodu, said on Monday that recent developments suggest a growing possibility of alignment among prominent politicians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Speaking during a television interview, Momodu noted that the idea of such figures working together had previously been dismissed in political circles, but current realities appear to be challenging that assumption.

He alleged that earlier expectations within the ruling All Progressives Congress were that divisions among opposition leaders would persist, effectively limiting the chances of any coordinated political front.

According to him, political dynamics are now evolving differently, with increasing discussions around coalition-building as parties and individuals reassess their strategies in response to internal challenges and electoral pressures.

Momodu also raised concerns about the broader political environment, including the role of institutions, warning that actions perceived as influencing opposition parties or key democratic processes could have long-term implications for governance and political competition.

While no formal alliance has been announced, the development underscores a shifting political terrain, as opposition actors weigh collaboration as a possible pathway to strengthening their position in the run-up to the 2027 elections.
