Telecommunications firm, MTN has denied clearing customers’ debt on its network, claiming that the supposed ‘clearance’ was as a result of network glitch.
Customers on the MTN network woke up yesterday to discover the disappearance of debt on their accounts, especially those who had borrowed credit from the company.
Data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) showed that MTN has 85 million users of its network in Nigeria with 38.58 per cent penetration of the population.
Many of the customers affected took to X (Twitter) to thank MTN for the development. While the subscribers believed the telecoms operator deliberately cancelled their debts and jubilated and thanked the company, the firm, however, denied such give out.
Responding to the claims on its X handle, @MTN180, the telecoms firm, said: “Y’ello, we are aware that some of our customer’s Xtratime debt was cleared, it was a system glitch, the airtime was not cleared. The issue is receiving attention from our support team and feedback will be shared once received. Thank you.”
