Governors in Nigeria’s northern region have committed a major financial package to address worsening security. Each of the region’s states will contribute one billion naira to a collective fund.
The announcement was made by Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State. He stated the decision was reached by the Northern Governors’ Forum to pool resources against shared threats.
The fund, totaling at least 19 billion naira, is intended to strengthen regional security operations. It marks a direct response by state leaders to escalating violence from kidnappings and armed groups.
This move signals a shift towards coordinated action, as individual state efforts have struggled to control the crisis. The region has been the hardest hit by mass abductions and rural violence.
Specific plans for using the money were not detailed. Questions remain about how it will be managed and what new strategies it will support beyond existing federal military campaigns.
The pledge creates public expectation for clear results. Citizens now await tangible improvements in safety across the troubled north.
