NYSC reforms: Olabode says step in right direction

An All Progressives Congress, APC Chieftain, Mr.Olabode Omoyele has noted that the comprehensive reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as approved by President Bola Tinubu is a right step taken to rejig the scheme and make it run for optimal outcome.

The Real Estate tycoon and topnotch APC stakeholder gave this indication in his new month statement personally endorsed by him on Wednesday morning.

In the statement, Me.Olabode welcomed all to the new month of July, thanking God for the grace and enablement to have seen the first half of the year. He said there has been challenges, no doubt, seeing a new month for those who are alive requires the living show appreciation to God.

On his take on governance, Olabode charged Nigerians to continue to support both Ondo State and the Federal government with prayers, tasking all to see reason to be more positive about government policies.

While reacting to the new reform introduced by the Tinubu led Federal government into the NYSC scheme, Olabode showed enthusiasm, reiterating that the reforms are steps in the right direction and have come at the niche of time. “We will all recall that the NYSC scheme was introduced by the Government of Gen. Gowon in 1973, May of that year to be specific and the purpose was to reconstruct, reconcile and rebuild the nation after the Civil war. So, obviously, lot and lot of things about the policy of the service scheme will be requiring a tweak so that it can be at par with global standard and further serve the purpose of reintegration in a multi ethnic structure like Nigeria,” Olabode said.

He reiterated that there is the need to make the NYSC scheme more skill acquisition driven and more opened to techy innovations which will stand the Youth corp members in good stead in their post service years.

Olabode added that the policy on ‘risk sensitive deployment’ is one of the very applaudable reforms comprehensively introduced by Federal government, noting that it is in the best interest of Nigerian youths for their safety to be considered in the course of deployment to states for national service.
