Olabode Omoyele commends INEC, security agencies over peaceful Osun guber poll

 

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Olabode Omoyele has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies for the peaceful conduct of the August 15 governorship election in Osun state. Osun State was in the news for the better part of last week as the major concern of Nigerians had been the need to curb violence before, during and after the governorship election.

Olabode, in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos on Monday, described the Osun Guber poll as a demonstration of improved electoral integrity and professionalism by both INEC officials and security personnel deployed across the 30 local government areas.

He noted that despite initial concerns over voter apathy and logistics, the electoral process was largely orderly, transparent, and devoid of major violence.

“I want to sincerely commend INEC for its improved preparation and timely deployment of materials. The security agencies also deserve praise for maintaining peace and ensuring that voters exercised their franchise without intimidation,” Olabode said.

The APC leader added that the peaceful atmosphere recorded during the election reflected the commitment of stakeholders to deepen democracy in Osun.

According to him, the conduct of the poll has restored confidence in the electoral process and should serve as a template for future elections in the country.

Olabode urged politicians and their supporters to accept the outcome of the election in good faith and to join hands with the eventual winner in moving the state forward. He saluted the sportsmanship of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who has called to congratulate the winner, stressing that President Tinubu is a pan Nigerian leader with a lot of respect for institutional democracy. He also noted that the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 General election is non negotiable, stressing that even in Osun state, the Governor-elect has assured of the goodwill and support of his Party for President Bola Tinubu.

He also called on INEC to sustain the momentum by addressing minor lapses observed in some polling units, stressing that continuous improvement would further strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.

The August 15 Osun governorship poll was held across the state to elect a new governor, with security agencies maintaining a heavy presence to forestall breakdown of law and order.
