Ondo South: Breaking the jinx of women inequalities in political offices

 

In Nigeria, women make up almost 60 percent of the total population, yet there voices has not been properly heard from the first Republic till date because of inequality in the distribution of political offices.

 

They are used majorly in politics because of their emotions to pull strings and crowd too, they are not ashamed of singing, dancing,, promoting, campaigning and casting their votes enmasse for their men folks.

 

The dark side of the report is that, after elections are over, and political positions are shared, the men folks immediately forgot “the geese that lays the golden eggs” as they take the largest political offices while women always receive paltry slots like just one or two positions.

 

The same scenario, has since played out in Ondo State since 1999 when Nigeria was returned back to the Second Republic with the nascent democracy and this has equivocally transcends across all its senatorial districts.

 

On Ondo South Senatorial District political voyage, remimiscentially, no single woman has been given the opportunity to represent the district at the National Assembly from 1999 till date.

 

From the era of Omololu Meroyi, to Oladapo Ehinlanwo, who passed the baton to Boluwaji Kunlere, who also gave it to Yele Omogunwa, through to Nicholas Tofowomo and to the current Senator, Dr Jimoh Ibrahim, CFR, no woman has been given a chance to break that jinx.

 

Last year, the current Senator representing Ondo South, was appointed as ambassador designate by President Bola Tinubu and while awaiting his portfolio, the seat constitutionally became vacant for every Tom, Dick and Harry.

 

Well, hinging from the political history in Ondo South, we had clearly seen what the men folks were able to deliver during their time, but Ondo South constituents should follow the saying that “What a man can do, a woman can do better’ by giving a woman a chance to proof the saying.

 

The time to break the jinx of inequalities of women in political offices is ticking very fast, but the question is, if Ondo South constituents are ready, especially the women folks to take the bull by the horn to unlock more advancement and developmental strides.

 

Among all aspirants jostling for the ticket?, it’ would interest you to know that that a woman of valour, an experienced, tested and trusted politician, a political jugganut, a political bulldozer and a trailblazer, who has weathered the political time, tides and fashion, to become a household name, Isn’t Princess Catherine Oladunni Odu rings a bell? She stands tall among them all and beckoning to be given the rear privilege.

 

Oladunni Odu was not a new comer in politics, she has come from an humble background and understood the nitty gritty of political language and the game of politics by delivering to the masses, when any opportunity was given and has encraved her name in a silver crest on the minds of the masses.

 

The two term commissioners of Education and Women Affairs in Ondo State has been equipped with all the experiences and political paraphenelia to bring unique experiences and viewpoints to the table, which are essential for informed decision-making and for proper and beneficial execution.

 

She is also poised to learn credence to women, let their voice be heard, advocate for better policies in the interest of women, families and communities in a bid to alleviate sufferings and poverty across board.

 

The former Chairman, Ondo State Universal Education Board (SUBEB) was a performer, a goal getter, a role model who inspire young girls and women alike to participate in politics and therefore, creating a pipeline of future women leaders.

 

The first female Secretary to the State Government (SSG) with her classical political savvy, broke the jinx of the first female SSG and ready to break the first female Senator in Ondo South with the power of constituents rested in her palm.

 

Oladunni Odu has since transverse the six Local Government Areas of Ondo South, from Ile-Oluji down to Odigbo to Irele and to Okitipupa down to Ilaje and to Ese-Odo, understands where the shoe pinches and ready to apply the balm of Gilead.

 

Ondo South constituents should look no further, Oladunni Odu is viable, capable, reliable and credible reinforce equitable economic policies which would boost growth, advancement and development in order to engrave Ondo South on the world’s map.
