Osun LG crisis: NLC instructs workers not to resume work

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Osun State chapter, has instructed its members in the state’s 30 local government council areas to remain at home pending the resolution of the ongoing political crisis in the councils.

The NLC Chairman in the State, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, ordered last Sunday that council workers not withdraw their services over insecurity in the third tier of government.

While the crisis is yet to be resolved, Governor Ademola Adeleke swore in newly elected council chairmen and councillors in an election held on Saturday and asked them not to go to the secretariats due to the current impasse.

A fresh statement issued by Arapasopo stated the NLC’s resolve not to risk the lives of its members, hence, ordered them to remain at home.

The statement titled “RE: SAFETY OF OUR MEMBERS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE” reads, “The Osun State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) strongly affirm her earlier release notifying all Local Government Area Workers in the State to withdraw their services as a result of the political upheaval within their workplaces still subsist, while continuing in their prayers for the state.

“The Osun State Council of the NLC remains resolute in its commitment to defending the rights and interests of workers and the masses. We shall not be cowed or intimidated by these desperate attempts to silence us. We stand firm in our resolve to uphold justice, fairness, and the rule of law in our beloved state”.
